Title:Dress with jacket (Title defined while cataloguing)
Object name:suit
Production period:1. Drittel 20. Jahrhundert
Description:The ensemble consists of a sleeveless, unlined chiffon dress, printed with a poppy blossom motif and ornately embroidered with glass beads, with a wide loose skirt, low-cut top in a wrap look and waist belt, as well as a matching, straight-cut, hip-length jacket of poppy red silky velvet with rounded corners at the hem and an elaborately crafted collar. The same chiffon was used for the jacket lining and collar as for the dress, with the collar also embroidered with glass beads.
Hist. crit. notes:Hand-sewn and embroidered by “Casa Finzi – Milano” in the late 1920s, we can only wonder at how many hours of work went into this two-piece set. Its many special features, such as the unusually designed jacket collar, or the beads embroidered on the dress that considerably increase its weight, contribute to the wearer’s sophisticated appearance: we can imagine how she would go dancing with her friends in the evenings, enjoying her freedom and independence.
