Description:From the work series “Museumsräume [Museum spaces]”. Highly reduced depiction of an interior with a black floor, white partition walls and a white ceiling with recessed skylights.
Hist. crit. notes:Elisabeth von Samsonow described a series of paintings by Martin Pohl with sketched perspectives of identifiable museum spaces and the artist’s works installed in them as a “Sturm auf den Museumsraum [assault on the museum space]”. While the calculatedly smoothed wax pigment painting had concentrated entirely on filling the picture panel in an initial phase, in these works it aims to “die großen Museen in die Bilder zu manövrieren [manoeuvre the large museums into the pictures]”. In a self-reflexive act, the artist uses the means of painting to undermine the presentation and distribution mechanisms of the art system. (Marion Piffer Damiani, in “Arbeiten. Lavori in corso”, Bozen/Bolzano 2011, p. 220)
