Description:Many figures on the street
Hist. crit. notes:Another work by Pörnbacher in the South Tyrolean Provincial Council building is a watercolour dating from 1972. Delicate brushwork is used to depict a bustling street scene in Morocco, with people going about their business under the strong North African sun.

Siegfried Pörnbacher
Born in Valdaora/Olang (1914). Died on 18.08.2006 in Valdaora/Olang. Member of the Pörnbacher family, owners of the Valdaora railway station hotel. He studied decorative painting under C. Valazza in Bressanone/Brixen and, during the war years, was in active military service (1940 - 1943), when he sustained a severe head injury. During his long convalescence he attended the Institute of Graphic Arts in Vienna, lived in Merano/Meran from 1947 to 1949, with Peter Fellin as his mentor. Later he worked as an art teacher at secondary schools in Brunico/Bruneck. Pörnbacher returned to Vienna to learn the art of fresco painting. He was in Brunico in 1953 and 1954 when he painted the frescoes in the Bolzano Provincial Council building.
