Born in Cermes/Tscherms on 12.05.1952. From 1972 to 1977 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna studying under Maximilian Melcher before taking up a lectureship that lasted until 1981. He won prizes in the Austrian Graphic Competition in 1976 and 1980. From 1981 - 1982 he was awarded a scholarship by the Austrian Ministry of Arts and Education. 1991 found him in Spain, and in the years 1995 and 2000 he was in Berlin. What fascinated Mayr was the interrelation between the visual and spatial, art in architecture, and site-specific contexts.
His terra sigillata (Sealed Earth) was exhibited at the Vorarlberg Museum in Bregenz between 2009 and 2012. In 2011, another of his installations, Goldlauf (Gold Run), went on show at the Fortezza/Franzensfeste fortress museum.
