Description:This is a hemispherical fur cap made of very thick fur leather with bristly hair from a brown bear (Ursus arctos) on the outside. It has two chin straps: on the left strap is a double knot that joined the straps before they broke.
Hist. crit. notes:The conservation of prehistoric remains of leather and hide in exhibitions is still a rarity worldwide. Their presentation in museums requires special preservation measures, as such materials are particularly sensitive to unfavourable climatic conditions. The climate in the display case for the bearskin cap lies between 18 and 20°C, with a humidity of 50-51%. Climate stability is vital: sensors in the display case monitor the temperature and humidity every quarter-hour and, if the required values are too high or too low, an alarm is triggered to permit an immediate response.
