Description:Textilskulptur bestehend aus 3 handgetufteten Wandteppichstücken, die an einer Stahlbügelkonstruktion mit handgeschweißten Stahlringen befestigt sind. Letztere hängt an 4 gleich langen Stahlseilen.

Hist. crit. notes:This is the second work of a series of hand-tufted tapestry objects and one moving image work with the title ‘becoming otherwise’. All three works lean onto the idea of ‘becoming’ as elaborated in Deleuze’s and Guattari’s studies. While the first work refers to the idea ‘becoming woman’ and ‘becoming minor’, this piece refers to the idea of becoming on the level of cells and molecules, cellular transformation, permeability and exchange. It brings to the foreground the symbiotic life-forms within one and between more organisms and their material and immaterial entanglements. The work consists of hand-dyed natural silk and paper ribbons. Concerning the material, silk is produced by the silkworm while paper grows from plants. The material components of this work are important to highlight the title, the interconnectedness of materials to their environments and ecosystems between producers and users. I chose to use the pattern of the hexagonal cells, as it is the most
space-saving shape in all forms and recognizable shape for a cell.
Moreover, the visual aspect of the hexagon reminds instantly of the
honeycomb pattern in a beehive. The beehive herewith also becomes
relevant in its meaning and potential inspiration for societal change: a matriarchal society, in which the female worker bees all make decisions collectively. The tapestry object is hung from the ceiling when presented as an installation. The object is activated via a live performance, through which the object transforms to costume and prop, transitioning from its original skirt- or bell-like shape to a cocoon, or morphing into hybrid shapes with the performer’s body.
