The photograph is of the Maria Weissenstein monastery and place of pilgrimage on the Regglberg/Monte Regolo mountain, near Petersberg/Monte San Pietro (municipality of Deutschnofen/Nova Ponente) to the southeast of Bozen, looking southeast towards the Rosengarten (a mountain massif in the Dolomites). It shows the towers of the pilgrimage church of Our Lady (begun in 1638, consecrated in 1673, restored in 1753 and renovated in 1870 and 1954) behind the building with, in the foreground, the simple, three-storey monastery building (built between 1719 and 1722). The façade was redesigned in 1753 and has two turrets, a curved gable and a stairway with balustrade to the entrance. To the left in the image is the Weissenstein/Pietralba inn (begun 1708, much altered since). [Information: Weingartner 1991, Die Kunstdenkmäler Südtirols.]

Postcard sent with writing on the reverse and addressed to: “Familie Hans Niederwieser, St. Georgen”. The senders are: “Hermann and Regina”. Postmarked Petersberg, date 24 October 1961; 15-lire stamp issued by the Italian post office. Message: “Kind regards from Weissenstein”.
