Hist. crit. notes:Johann Baptist Zieglauer, Ferdinand’s grandfather, was ennobled in 1801 by Karl Franz, Count Lodron, Prince-Bishop of Brixen. The Emperor Franz I (as Holy Roman Emperor, Franz II) confirmed this elevation in 1805: Ferdinand’s father, Georg, was 11 years old at the time.
With this elevation to the aristocracy, the family of Johann Baptist Zieglauer became part of the highest social class in Bruneck, choosing the title of “von Blumenthal”.
